About

About the founder

Silvia is an Italian designer currently based in China, with a passion for traveling and photography.

She is a creative person, interested in different forms of design; a curiosity that is constantly growing and evolving as she experiences unique forms and applications of this discipline, broadening her perspective of design and its implications on human life.

When she started traveling as a teen, she constantly found herself marveling at the way in which local cultures have developed to express their own visual and cultural identity through design, becoming really fascinated by traditional shapes, decorations and construction techniques, which can be found in buildings, but also in patterns, fashion, everyday objects, calligraphy and more.

The choice to study Architecture in Italy and China surely influenced the way of looking at design, identity and beauty, establishing a solid foundation for understanding and
therefore appreciating the ways different cultures express themselves.

The preferred way of looking at Architecture as a human-centered discipline involving a broad multitude of factors (not just construction technology and shape, but also geography and climate, sociology, psychology, user experience etc.) enabled her to develop a deep  personal  interest in the regional, traditional and vernacular expression of this field.
A passion that, mixed with a fair dose of the travel bug, led to the necessary creation of Architecture On The Road.

“Architecture On The Road wants to provide a platform for anonymous designers to celebrate their invaluable work. Being a designer myself, I can only admire the work that architects, artisans and builders put into the creation of so many diverse kinds of beauty around the world, and cherish the cultural diversity that they gifted to us, and in which, even in modern times, we can still identify ourselves.”
